Viewing Wednesday August 22, 2012 from 3PM until 8PM at the Stinson Southwest Chapel Located 1939 S. Fort Street Detroit. Funeral Services Thursday at 11AM at Union Second Baptist Church with a 10:30AM Family Hour. Interment: Westlawn Cemetery

Doris Windham Beard was born on March 30, 1936 to the late Willie and Elvia Washington where she was one of five children and was preceded in death by three siblings: Willie (June) Washington, Jr., Robert (Bow Wow) Washington and Elaine Russell. She was raised by her late grandparents, Cordie and Sarah Rivers.

Doris accepted christ at an early age and was baptised at Union Second Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. E.C, Copeland.
She attended River Rouge High School and graduated in 1954. Followaing graduation Doris worked for the City of River Rouge as a crossing guard until she was hired as a machinist for General Motors.

Doris later met and married Ralph Beard. No children were born of this union. Her tenure at General Motors included a transfer from her beloved Michigan to Columbus, Ohio where she eventually retired after 30 years of service. While in Columbus, Ohio, Doris joined Faith Ministeries Church under the leadership of Rev. C. Dexter Wise III where she served on several auxiliaries including, the One Accord Choir, the Praise Production Choir and the Senior Celebration Ministry.

She departed from this life after a legnthy illness on Tuesday, August 14, 2012. She leaves to cherish her memories: her twin sister, Dorothy, a sister-in-law, Barbara (Juune) Washington, a devoted cousin Marie Thomas (Sylvester), dear friend, Katherine Slaughter, seversl nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
