Dorothy Marie Riley was born on March 2, 1927 in Detroit, Michgan to the union of the late Ozzie and Mollie Mae Riley. She was the second child of five born to this union.
Dorothy attended the Hamtramck Public School System and graduated from Hamtramck High School. Dorothy continued her education at Lewis Business College taking secretarial, accounting, and bookkeeping classes earning a business certificate. She was the first black bookkeeper to work at Detroit General Hospital which later became Detroit Receiving Hospital.
Dorothy accepted Christ at an early age at Peace Baptist Church. She was united in Holy Matrimony to William Godbold, Jr. on November 16, 1947, who preceded her in death. To this unin, one child was bor, a daughter, who died shortly after birth.
She later married John Watlington, Jr on December 7, 1973 and continued to enjoy life. Christ called him home on February 14, 1979 after a short illness.
Dorothy loved life and loved her family. She did everything to please them. She never said no to any of their requests for money, babysitting, or driving them to and from the store, doctor, school and other places. Dorothy also donated money to several organizations faithfully. She was a joy to be around. She loved to sew, paint, cook, knit, travel aznd shop. Dorothy was also an avid dog lover. Hector and Ponte' were treated like humans and lived well.
Dorothy was a hard worker and wanted everything done with expertise. She retired from management with the city, county and state after 38 years of faithful service.
Dorothy was called home on December 4, 2014 after a long illness. Not once did she complain and quietly slipped away into the arms of our Almighty Father.
She will be missed dearly by two sisters, Orice Mae Jenkins and Odean (Lake) Charles; One brother, Fred (Cheryl) Riley, (William, Dorothy's older broither preceded her in death). One god-daughter Sandrolyn Sims, many nieces, nephews and a host of other relativesd and friends.
