Elinor Peoples was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan on January 23,1924 with great love and care by Washington and Mattie Peoples. A musically gifted teenager, Elinor began playing piano/organ for Hartford Avenue Baptist Church. She met Luther Harvin, a talented young operatic baritone and choir director. These two united in holy matrimony on August 25,1943. She and her husband performed concerts for decades throughout the Detroit area primarily for churches and USO shows. Of this union was born Elinor, Lucia, Vanita and Luther Jr. Their four children were encouraged to sing as a quartet and perform for local events.
Elinor was a patient teacher who taught piano lessons to neighborhood children of all races for over 50 years. She served as a pianist and director for St. John's Presbyterian Church Male Chorus.
Since the death of her husband, Mrs. Harvin lived with her daughter Vanita, a retired city of Detroit worker, who assumed responsibilities as her mother's devoted care giver as well as Lucia, a retired television woker.
