Evelyn Brown was born in River Rouge, Michigan on February 10, 1928. She was the youngest child of James W. Goode and Henry Washington Goode. Her parents and siblings: Rosenthal a.k.a. Sam, Tennyson, James and Olive preceded her in death. Her special sister, Mattie Johnson also preceded her in death.
She was educated in the River Rouge school system. She worked as a crossing guard for the school district. On July 23, 1969, she joined the workforce of Michigan Bell until her retirement on April 1, 1993.
Evelyn joined Fews Memorial C.M.E. Church at an early age. Her passion and faithful service was as a doorkeeper in thr House of the Lord until her health began to fail her. She taught her children to love the lord and had her children attend Sunday school and church.
She met and married Edward Brown, Sr. on March 17 1947 and to this union seven children were born. She was a devoted wife and a extremely loving mother. She was dedicated to raising her children and taught them right from wrong. Being disrespectful or disobedient was not tolerated. Her favorite past time was to travel every opportunity that presented itself. She enjoyed a day trip as much as she enjoyed one that was a week or two longer.
Evelyn met and became part of a wonderful group of strong Black women, the Sisters Network of River Rouge. Although thr circumstances were not what they would have chosen to endure, not only did they endure it they are survivord. They fought a good fight and they came out stronger.
