Frank L. Knight, Sr. was born in Waycross, Georgia on July 4th 1925 to Zeddie and Clara Knight. Frank grew up knowing and accepting God's love.
Even though Frank had to leave school in the third grade as the oldest child, he had to work to help provide for his family.
He was incredibly gifted in working with his hands and precision measurements.
During the 2nd World War, Frank joined the Army, where he served two tours of duty in Europe. He achieved the rank of Private First Class, Frank served as a Stevedore, receiving and honorable discharge, despite a military that reflected America's "Jim Crow" mentality.
After serving honorably in the military, Frank moved to Detroit, Michigan, where he met and fell in love with Willa Bertha, the love of his life. He became husband, father and eventually became the head of a family of seven (Frank, Willa, Earl (deceased), Kenneth, Cheryl, Frank, Jr. and Juan).
After working a couple of different jobs, Frank was employed with the Chrysler Corporation, where he worked as a Solder Grinder. He stayed a loyal employee, rarely taking time off, until his retirement 33 years later.
Frank was everybody's favorite neighbor, known for sharing various vegetables from his bountiful garden. Known as "Mr. Knight," Frank was a positive force and popular with the boys in the neighborhood, where he coached softball and baseball, playing himself until well into his 70's.
The Lord sent angels down to retrieve his servant, Frank on June 12, 2016, after a short but intense time of illness.
Frank leaves to cherish his life: his wife pf 63 years, Willa; daughter, Cheryl; sons, Kenneth, Frank, Jr. (Stephanie and Juan, Sr. (Patricia); sister, Zeddie Mae Toomer; brother, Ronald Knight; 16 grandchildren, (Cherri deceased) ; and a host pf great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
