OBITUARY

Ms. Frankie Mae Lindsey Brown of Detroit, Michigan, peacefully transitioned into eternity on Friday, January 21, 2022, in her home surrounded by her family at the age of 95.

She was born to J.D. Lindsey and Josephine Franklin Lindsey in Evergreen, Alabama, on February 13, 1926, as the oldest of twelve siblings.

In her youth, she was baptized into the fellowship of Old Field AME Zion Church. She married Johnnie William Bonney Sr. and of this union four children were born.

After spending time in California, Frankie Mae relocated to New York where she received her cosmetology license from L. A. Robert Beauty School. Shortly after completion, she opened a successful beauty salon on Utica Avenue in Brooklyn, NY, securing her financial future.

Frankie Mae later retired to Detroit, Michigan, to help take care of her brother-in-law, Kingzelle Stallworth, and to be closer to her siblings.

Frankie Mae was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Johnnie Bonney, Sr. and Steven Brown; son, Johnnie Bonney Jr. Six siblings, Fred Lindsey, Celestine Curry, Lucille Wells, J. C. Lindsey, James Lindsey, and Raynell Lindsey.

She is survived by three children, Ellen Gwendolyn Bonney, Carolyn Andrews and husband Bevin, son Frank Bonney and wife Jacqueline. Five siblings, Willa Rankins, Helen Stallworth, Doris Crosby, Yvonne Ware and husband Robert, Marion Lindsey and wife Ann. Six grandchildren, Shomari Andrews, Karamoko Andrews, Zakiya Lakhanpal, Shavon Bonney, Isis Bonney, Tasheena Johnson, five great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Frankie Mae was loved by many and she returned that love tenfold. She was a great inspiration that encouraged many to endure and give their best. Although gone in the physical, Frankie Mae's spirit lives eternally as her generosity, wisdom, and charity has imprinted upon the lives of many.
