Obituary

Memorial Services are Tuesday January 8, 2013 at 11AM in the Stinson Nortwest Chapel Located 16540 Meyers Road at the John Lodge Fwy. Final Disposition of the Remains is Cremation.

George "Ray" Sims III was born in Monroe, Louisiana on December 7, 1950. He was the fourth child born to the union of Johnnie Mae and George Sims, Jr. who preceded him in death.

The Sims family moved to Detroit in 1952 where Ray attended Detroit Public Schools up until grade 13 at Northwestern High School when he was then drafted into the United States Army in 1969. While in the U.S. Army he served with the 2nd Armor, 3rd Division known as "Hell on Wheels" until 1971.

(Between his family of 9 brothers and sisters at the age of 28 we believe that's where he got his "Tough Man don't pss me off" persona we all knew him for).

Not long after his honorable discharge from the Army, he was joined in Holy Matrimony with Cylestine "Tina" Green on June 16th, 1978. From this union they were blessed with seven children. Ray kept busy by working for Ford Motor Co., and Chrysler Corp. In his younger years, and by doing light handyman jobs for support before he got ill. Those who knew him would tell you he loved to play chess, fish and watch Pro footbsll and boxing.

Ray accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior throughout his life and on January 3, 2013 between the hours OF 12:30 and 1 PM his pain was stopped as he too was accepted by Christ.

He leaves to cherish his memory; his loving mother Johnnie Mae Sims; five daughters: Mary "Shaun", Maria :Dee Dee, Tiffany, Tamara (Bryant) Barber, Regina "Dacey" (Antoine) Hillman, two sons: Martel "Mike", George Ray Sims IV "Boomie" (Tonesha), five brothers: Johnny Don (Mazry), Rev Phillip (Ethel), Johnah (Root), Rhudel, four sisters: Nellie (Jack) of Louisiana, Rita Cameron (Marvin) of Louisiana, Carol Chambers (Jerry), Donna Mae Massey (Robert who preceded him in death); 20 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and friends.
