Viewing Sunday March 4, 2012 from 12Noon until 6PM at the Stinson Southwest Chapel Located at 1939 S. Fort Street Detroit. Funeral Services will be Saturday at 11AM at the Church of the Ressurection. Family is at 10:30AM. Interment: Woodmere Cemetery.

Gladys M. Biggs was born on May 17, 1925 to her loving parents Isaac and Fannie Cobbs. Her family moved from Enfield, North California to Brooklyn, New York when she was six months old. Gladys spent her entire youth and early adult years in Brooklyn. She had seven siblings all of whom preceded her in death.

Gladys was educated in the New York City Public School system, but had to leave high school before graduating. Because Glady's mom and dad had died by th etime she had turned fourtrrn, she took a job abd raised her two younger siblings, Emma and Vivian. At the yong age of sixteeen, Gladys was catapilted into an aduly role. She embraced this heavy responsibility just as she did with everything else in life. She was dedicated, had working, and fulfilled her responsibilities to the very best of her ability.

Gladys met her late husband, Walker V. Biggs, Jr. in January 1945. They married on October 15, 1949 and shared 58 years of marriage until Walker's death in 2007. Four children were born to their loving union; Bruce, Walker III, Deborah and Keith.

Gladys and her husband moved from Brooklyn, New York to Detroit, Michigan in 1953. Gladys who always had a passion for reading and learning returned to school and completed the General Educaational Development program (GED) and also completed several college courses while working and raising her children. She spent countless hours studying and completed every assignment with excellence.

Gladys was employed by the Detroit Public School system where she worked as a para-professional at Southwestern and Western high schools. She worked primarily in the reading lab where she helped many students become proficient readres. While working and even after retirement, many students thanked her for her untiring dedication when helping them learn to become better readers and for her words of wisdom for helping them to become better human beings.

Gladys belonged to many houses of the Prince Hall Affiliation (Prince Hall Grand Chapter, Edith Benford Chapter #35-Order of the Eastern Star, Grand Guild, Eureka Guild #1, Grand Court Heroines of Jerico, Jerahmeel Court #6, Charity Assembly #38, Circle of Perfection, and the Golden Circle). She also had been a loyal Lady of the Daughters of Isis-Marracci#32.

Gladys also held several distinguished titles within the Prince Hall Affiliation. She was a Past Grand Worthy Matron-Order of the Eastern Star (Jurisdiction of Michigan), Past Most Ancient Matron (Heroines of Jerico), Past Grand Princess Captain (Guild), and Past Grand Royal Perfect Matron (Circle of Perfection).
Gladys M. Biggs leaves a great legacy that cannot be contained within this limited space. She is deeply loved and will always remain in our hearts. Gladys leaves to cherish her memory three sons, Bruce Biggs, Walker Biggs III (Saundra) Keith Biggs (Yolanda) and one daughter, Deborah (Biggs) Winston (Gary, Sr); grandchildren (Terrance, Terra, Raegan, Michael, Vernon, Jason, Gary,II, Kevin, Edward, Keith and Ashley); great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
