Obituary
Viewing Monday July 09,2012 from 1PM until 8PM at the Stinson Northwest Chapel Located 16540 Meyers Road at the John Lodge Fwy. Funeral Services will be Tuesday, July 10, 2012 Family Hour is at 10:30AM Funeral service at 11AM in the Funeral Home Chapel.
Interment: Woodlawn Cemetery.
Lawrence Merriweather, Jr. waas born January 19, 2934 to Lawrence and Mary Merriweather, Sr, the oldest of four children, grew up on Log Cabin Street in Detroit, and attended Detroit Public Schools. Upon graduating high school, Lawrence served in both the U.S. Army and Airforce and was honorable discharged in 1961. During his active military service, Lawrence had the opportunity to travel the world where he spent time in Japan, Korea, Germany, Spain and Turkey. He loved to share his memories to traveling the world with his grandchildren.
Lawrence met and fell in love with Alma Davis Barnett, to whom he married and had a loving son, Torreano Del Toro Merriwesther, Sr. He later remarried Gwendolyn Bishop, to whom he gained two stepchildren, Ted and Kelly Bishop. After serving our country in military service, Lawrence worked at various jobs. But his most enjoyable job was with Blue Cross Blue SHield in Detroit, MI, where he retired.
Lawrence lived a full and enjoyable life. He enjoyed spending time with his son and grandson. He loved cowboy movies, playing dominos, and listening to smooth jazz. He lived to have a good time no matter where he was- Detroit, Battle Creek,and most recently, Pontiac, Michigan.
Lawrence was affectionately know by his nieces and nephews as "Uncle June June." He was full of life, laughter and fun which translated into many close bonds with his family and friends alike.
He leaves to honor and cherish his memories a loving and devoted son Torreano (Phyllis); two stepchildren Ted and Kelly Bishop; four grandchildren, Brandi (Derrick), Torreano "TJ"; Daniel and George "Sonny" (Carol) and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Mary Merriweather; his wife Gwendolyn Merriweather; and his sister, Shiirley Robinson.
