Loletha Porter Coleman was born October of 1952 to the proud parents of Edward and Pecola Porter. She was an only child.
Her education was through the Detroit Public School system and she received her diploma from Cass Technical High School. She later continued her education by receiving her Baccalaureate of Arts from Wayne State University with a major in Speech Communications. She always believed she needed to continue her education afterwards and received numerous certifications from Eastern Michigan University in Human Resources. Loletha was an Eastern Star, participated in various endeavors, and loved to volunteer.
Loletha accepted the Lord as her savior at an early age and was baptized at Greater New Mount Moriah. In her early 20's she found her new church home Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Fredrick Sampson. She served as a faithful member for over 40 plus years. She was a part of the Optimist Club and taught Sunday School.
She loved to sing and give praises to the Lord. She was a part of the Women and Girls choir. She was also a founding member of the Gospel/Jazz Group "The Blessed Hearts". She performed all over the metro Detroit area and her vocal versatility allowed her to sing alto as well as soprano.
In the 1970s, she was employed by the Detroit Police Department. She worked in the force and retired in 2012. She started her career as a police officer and throughout her career she held various titles; ending her career with the Detroit Police Department as a Lieutenant. Soon after retirement she was appointed as Director of Personnel for the Detroit Police Department by the City of Detroit.
Loletha lived for her family. She bought so much joy to her friends and family. Loletha leaves to cherish her memory; Husband; Lester Coleman, Daughter; Ayana Potts (Paul), Daughter; DaLaina Jones, Son; Harold Knox, Son; Matthew Jones, Close Cousin; Madelyn Branch, Grandchildren; Ajani, Khamani, Amari, Anaya, Jabari, Samaya and a host family & friends.
