On July 26, 20115 Mrs. Nettie Lee Matthews was passed from this earth to her heavenly reward. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she was 90 years old.

Born March 24, 1925 in Shadydale, Georgia to the late Dr. Roman E. Turmon and Mrs. Ollie Isaac Turmon. The family moved to Thomaston, Ga, where Dr, Turmon relocated his medical practice. Nettie was the oldest of four children. Mattie Lou (deceased), Ceola (deceased) and Roman (deceased).

Nettie accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and was baptized at Macedonia Baptist Church, Thomaston, GA where her father and mother served as deacon and deaconess.

Nettie attended the public schools for Negro students in Thomaston, GA, during the segregation years. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1942. She stayed with relatives and attended Spelman College in Atlanta, GA. She loved athletics and was quite good at basketball.

Nettie moved to Detroit in the mid-40's to join her sister Mattie Lou. It was soon afterward she met the love of her life Charles Otis Matthews from Evergreen, Alabama. They soon married and had one daughter, Patricia.

Nettie loved fashion and for a good part of her life that was her entertainment when she was not devoting time to her husband and daughter. Her interests stretched to attending the Academy of Art Dress Designing School in Detroit where she graduated. She was able to design/sketch then sew her own creations. Her most cherished creations included shirts for her husband and her daughter's wedding dress.

Nettie rededicated herself to the Lord in the mid-70s and joined Holy Cross Baptist Church.
Nettie leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Mrs. Patricia Euseary (Jon), a grandson Jason Charles Williams, Ypsilanti, MI; cousins, Mr. Gilbert Turman III, Ellenwood, GA and Isaac and Matthews extended families and friends.
