Interment: Mt. Hope Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Nuna Belle Gates

One beautiful spring day June 16, 1920, Sim Byrd and Mattie Mapp Byrd was blessed with a daughter whom the named Nuna Belle Byrd. Nuna was the last of eight children. Her father, mother and all siblings preceded her in death.

Nuna Belle received God at an early age and joined
the New Battery Baptist Churchb in Crawfordville, GA, where she served faithfully during her childhood years.

She was educated in the Taliaferra COunty school system in Crawfordville, GA.

She moved to Atlanta, GA at a very young age and worked at various jobs.

In 1944 she met and married Moses James Gates. Moses preceded her in death. Moses and Nuna moved to Detroit, MI and they joined Macedonia Baptist Church. She worked with the nurses and he worked with the ushers. Nuna had a God gifted talent for playing the piano. She loved working other activities in the church.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories a sister-in-law, Ollie Byrd of Inkster, MI; 5 nieces Idonia Reynolds of Detroit, MI, Lillian Odessa Boone (Johnny) of Albany, GA, Ruby Stanford of Syracuse, NY, Olivia Jackson of Columbus, OH and Debra Byrd of Macon, GA; 5 nephews Robert Byrd, Jr. of Detroit, MI, Michael Byrd (Alida), Loren Byrd (Debra) of Oak Park, MI, Lenion C. Bonhart (Jean) of Monroe, GA and Harold D. Bonhart of Detroit, MI and a number of great-nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
