Ms. Otelia Pope was born June 25, 1935 to Bettie Cameron in Selma, Alabama. She accepted Christ at an early age when she joined the New Morning Star Baptist Church in Marion Junction, Alabama.
Otelia attended the Dallas, and Etowah County Public School System.
She moved to Detroit, MI at the age of 20 with her cousin Ella.
She worked for the Detroit School System for over forty years. She retired from the Detroit Day School for the Deaf in 2002. Otelia was also heavily involved in the Greater King Solomon Missionary Baptist Church,volunteering on the Nurses Guild for several years.
She enjoyed watching game shows, riding the Greyhound Bus to visit her family in the South, and socializing outdoors with her friends at the Woodbridge Senior Citizens Community.
She transitioned on October 13, 2015.
She was preceded in death by her mother Bettie Cameron, son Ronnie Pope, and Aunt Arlene.
She leaves to cherish her memories two brothers Leon (Willie Bell) Pope of Selma, Alabama., and Lourie Cameron of Gadsden, Alabama; Daughters Bettie (Ervin) Thomas of Dallas, Georgia, and Annette (Allen) Terry of Detroit, Michigan; Her granddaughter Eboni (Corey) Everett of Powder Springs, Georgia, and grandsons Brenson Thomas of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Cornell Huntley, LaRon Huntley, Donte Huntley, and Corey Huntley, all of Detroit, Michigan; goddaughters Yvonne Davis and Beverly Williams-Martin, both of Detroit, Michigan; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
