Patsy Lou Burks was born on July 16, 1934 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Clinton and Selina White.
Patsy accepted Christ at an early age. She joined the Plymouth United Churchof Christ Congregational in 1990 under the pastorage of Rev. Dr. Nicholas Hood III. She was a very active and upstanding member of the Plymouth Angels.
Patsy's early education began in Columbus, Ohio where she completed East High School in June of 1951. She attended Liningstone College in Salisbury, North Carolina where she earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1955.l She then attended Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan for her graduate studies earning her Masters of Education in 1965. She's been a member of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc. for 59 years.
Patsy married Delbert Burks on December 16, 1955. They moved to Detroit, Michigan in 1957. One loving son, Michael Bradley Burks was born to this union. Her loving husband oreceded her in death.
Patsy first taught in the Columbus, Ohio School system. She worked in the Detroit Public School system for forty-five years. During this tenure she was a teacher at Jeffried Elementary School system for several years; Assistant Principal at Condon Junior High School; and Principal of the John Owen Elementary School for twenty years. She retired from the Detroit Public School system in June 0f 3007.
Patsy departed this life on Sunday, May 26, 2013 and leaves to cherish her memory; her one and only son, Michael Bradley Burks of Toledo, Ohio; one sister, Peggy Wade pf Toledo, Ohio; one brother, Berton Lloyd White of Columbus, Ohio; five nieces, Linda Davis of Cleveland, Ohio, Jill Gaines of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Brenda White (Eddie Falls), Starlene Fields and Cheryl Burks of Columbus, Ohio; one nephew, Stacey White of Columbus, Ohio, a special great-niece, Ladonna Wade, a special nephew Nicholas(Tanya) Wade; a special friend, James Rhodes, a very special God-daughter and Caregiver, Bertha "BJ" and her husband, Aaron Gary Shackleford of Detroit, Michigan; her prrcious pet Scholar, The Owen School Staff and Students; and a host of other relatives and friends. She will be missed
