IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ramona
Dawson
October 15, 1935 – April 25, 2019
Ramona Dawson went home to Glory on April 25, 2019 in Peachtree City, Georgia. She was 83. Ramona was born to Lugene and Anna Laura Baxter on October 15, 1935 in Denver, Colorado. She had a twin sister, Winona, who preceded her in death in 2017, and she was the youngest of 10 siblings, all deceased.
Ramona attended Manual High School in Denver and after graduating, she lived in California before making her home in Detroit, Michigan. It was there that she met and married her beloved husband Earl Dawson (deceased) in 1968. Together, they raised a beautiful family together in Detroit, where she lived for more than 45 years.
Ramona was a loving woman who enjoyed caring for others. She worked for more than a decade as a nurse's aide before dedicating herself to her family as a nurturing homemaker for her husband and four sons. She was also kind and giving to others and she generously opened her heart and her home to those in need, like the time she brought a senior from her church to live with her family when she did not have anyone else to care for her. Ramona also volunteered as an election poll worker and returned to caregiving for seniors later in her life.
Ramona loved the Lord and the Word of God with all of her heart! She enjoyed fellowship with her family and friends and enjoyed singing hymns and songs, reading her Bible and attending services at The Original Church and later the Berean Chapel in Detroit. She was a dedicated and loyal follower of Christ, who was also passionate about spreading the love of God to children.
Beginning in 1967, she dedicated more than 39 years of her life to teaching Bible verses and sharing inspiring messages to young people throughout the City of Detroit through her ongoing volunteer work with the Boys and Girls Bible Clubs' after-school program – all the way through the last time she read the Memory Verse at Clinton Elementary School in 2006.
Ramona moved to the Atlanta area in 2010, where she enjoyed spending time with friends and attending church with her son and daughter-in-law.
She leaves four sons as her legacy: Kevin Baxter (Michelle), Jerry Dawson (Camille), Walter Dawson (Micki) and Elliot Dawson. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and a host of friends and family.
