We are celebrating the life of Robert Louis Braswell Jr. What a life he lived, first and foremost, Robert had several nicknames such as: "Bro", "Haus", and "Fat Boy." He even gave himself a nickname, "this is Po Bob from the Ghetto."
Robert was bron July 28, 1932, to the parents of the late Reverend Robert and Odeal Braswell in Roberta, Georgia. He was the first born of eight children, Dorthy (Dot), William, Waldell, Solomon, Alfred, Joe, and Milton. William and Milton preceded Robert in death.
Robert attended Northern High School in Detroit. He was employed by Fleetwood Fisher Body (General Motors) for over 30 years. Due to the economy, he also worked another job as a cook. He believed in education; while working at General Motors, he took training courses through the UAW at Black Lake and became a skilled tradesman.
In 1954, Robert married Ruthie Mae Chatman and through this union five children were born: Barbara Jean, Linda, Sherry Mason, Ricky and Timothy Braswell. Barbara Jean preceded Robert in death. He later divorced and married Voncile Folson in 1975, and through this union he gained four stepchildren: Janice, Yvonne, Joy, and Carlton. Joy preceded Robert in death. After 32 years of service, he retired from General Motors. While retired, he had a janitorial buisness and later attended heating and cooling school. Robert enjoyed fishing and traveling. In his retired life, he also enjoyed visiting his family members and friends.
Along with his children, Robert also leaves 15 grandchildren and a host of great- grandchildren.
