Thelma M. Evans was born in Detroit, Michigan, on January 27,1923 to the late Alex and Luilie Mercer. She was the eldest of thre children. born to that union. Her two sisters preceded her in death. Thelma accepted Christ at an early age at the Corinthian Baptist Church.
Thelma atended the Hamtramck Public Schools in 1940. After graduating high schol, Thelma began working for Herman Kiefer Hospital of Detroit, Michigan, where she was a Nurse. She later began working as a Nurse at Detroit Receiving Hospital.
Thelma later joined Greater St. John Misionary Baptist Church in 1950, where she served in many capacities which included being Treasurer of the Nurses Guild, and President of the Misionary Society.
Thelma was joined in holy matrimony with Abraham Evans. In 1951, this union was blessed with a beautiful daughter, Charis.
Thelma retired from nursing in 1976. She was an avid bowler, who enjoyed keeping up with current events, and loved spending time with her family, friends and church family.
On january 8, 2013, Thelma Evans made her transition. She leaves to cherish her memory: her loving daughter, Charis Evans-Lewis; two grandchildren, Marco Evans and Octavius Lewis; one great-grandchild, Octaviun Lewis; two nieces and nephews, Alex Renwrick, and Gail Burns; seven great nieces and nephews, James "LeeLee" Miller III, Janice Miller, Mysti Stewart, Rosaland Renwrick, Lashandra Renwrick, Derk Burns, and Erica Burns; seven great-gres nieces and nephews, Julilan Stewert, Paige Renwrick, Jasmine Miller, Kadijah Layne, Keaira, Keaira and Keith Layne, and Derek Burns, Jr.; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Thelma had one niece, Robin Renwrick and one nrphew, Jackie Miller to precede her in death.
She was truly loved, and will be missed by all who knew her.
