Obituary

Viewing Wednesday February 20, 2013 from 1PM until 8PM at the Stinson Northwest Chapel Located at 16540 Meyers Road at the John Lodge Fwy. Funeral Service will be Thursday at 11AM in the Chapel of the Funeral Home. Family Hour is 10:30AM. Interment: Great Lakes National Cemetery.

T.J. Williams was born June 15, 1923 in Arcadia, Louisiana to the union of the late Doc and Ellen Corbin Williams. He was the fourth of nine children, 7 of who preceded him in death.

T.J. accepted Christ at an early age at St. Luke Baptist Church in Arcadia, Louisiana and also attended school in that community.

At the age of eighteen T.J. joined the United States Navy entering active service in Alameda, California. A little known factwas, in in order for him to join the military he had to convert his initials into a name, so he was given the name Tom Jim for those four years of service. He served on Hedron Fleet Air Wing Eight CASU 33, Torpedo Squadron Ninety-Eight USNAB, Yonabaru, and Okinawa, ending his tour on board U.S.S. Virgo, San Francisco, California, receiving a letter of appreciation from his commanding officer for his unexcelled services while aboard. He was honorable discharged from the United States Navy October 31, 1947 and awarded the Good Conduct Medal. After the military T.J. ventured north to Pontiac, Michigan.

T.J. became employed by General Motors in Detroit, Michigan. He worked for over thirty years until his retirement in 1977. He was a strong Union advocate.

On June 15, 2001 T.J. was united in Holy Matrimony to Hazel Denise Jones. They shared many happy years filled with loving friendship and companionship. She remained faithfully by his side until his passing.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife Hazel Denise; a loving sister Jeanette Knight of Dallas, Texas; two sister-in-laws, Gloria Lisa (Sterling), Ethel Nelson of Detroit, Michigan; four brother-in-laws, Eddie Jr., Carl, and James Jones all of Detroit, Michigan, Eugene Dorris , of Pontiac, Michigan and a very special special nephew Roy Lee Isaac who he loved as a son, and many loving nephew and nieces, that he loved and treated as his own. He also leaves a host of cousins and other relatives and friends.
