Williams Robert Young was born on March 28, 1922, to the late Ceola Mills and Porter Young, in Wheeling, West Virginia. He was the younger of two children. His sister, Naomi Young-Jones preceded him in death.
William was educated in the West Virginia Public Schools. He also spent three years in CC Camp (Civilian Conservation Camp).
William met, and married the late Ina Clara Jackson, and made a home in Beech Bottom, West Virginia. To this union seven children were born; Robert Dale, Ina Jean, Ruth Edna, Carolyn Marie, Deborah Ann, Michael Eugene, and William Keith. Four of his children preceded him in death; Robert Dale, Ina Jean, Michael Eugene, and William Keith. He moved his family to Detroit, Michigan in the late 1950's.
William later met and married Florastine Clausell, and to that union two daughters were born; Alicia Lexanna and Marsha Seretta.
William had a variety of occupations throughout his life. He worked as a Coal Miner, Truck Driver, and a Foreman for Standard Beef at Eastern Market in Detroit, Michigan. He eventually became his own boss, owning and operating two businesses, one of which he had for thirty years.
William was a hard worker, who was always devoted to taking care of his family. He was a great role model for the term, "for sickness, and in health."
He demonstrated great patience when his wife was ill, making sure she was cared for. He was very well liked by all who knew him. He mentored many family members, as well as young as young people in the neighborhood. William took great pride in his home, yard, and cars. He could be seen working in his yard for many hours. William was very generous, never turning away anyone in need. His famous quote was, "Now if you need something, I got it!"
William was an impeccable dresser. He loved sports, and had a great sense of humor. He loved his children and grandchildren, often bragging of their many accomplishments.
William will be missed by all who knew him. He leaves to mourn his passing: a loving wife, Florastine; five daughters, Ruth Hudson (Edward) of Southfield, Michigan, Carolyn Anderson of Detroit, Michigan, Deborah Ann Murry of Stone Mountain, Georgia, Alicia Sims (Nick) of Topeka, Kansas, great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; many nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
